A Fresh Start
We are well and truly back in the swing of things at the Wicker Emporium photo room with only a few traces of holiday glitter still to be found! As much as I love Christmas shoots it is always exciting to change direction with brand new product--a fresh start.
The first photoshoot of the year is all about textures, to ease us into the bright hues of Spring. Textures add warmth and interest to a space and it's a great way to decorate if you are colour shy. This is a practical, family-friendly option that still has a stylish look.
The focal point in this room is a fabulous shelving unit from the Industria collection. This piece has the look of reclaimed wood, faux metal and exposed bolts. I love the X detail on the sides and the chunky shelves. A very versatile piece, it would work equally well in a kitchen, stacked with dinnerware, pots of herbs and jugs of wooden spoons, or in an entrance or mudroom with baskets for storage.
As a background to the shelving unit I used a dark brown, faux croc wallpaper--an easy trick to highlight a collection and add another element. This picked up the leather trim on the trunks and suitcases, which make unusual and attractive storage pieces. The coffee table is actually a bench (I love pieces that do double duty). The curved metal leg echoes the lines of the chair and stops the room from becoming too angular. The drapery is soft as not to make the window the focal point. The understated grey and off white paisley pattern adds a feminine touch to what could otherwise be a very masculine room.
Some of my favourite pieces are the round, mirror-topped side table, which comes in two sizes, and the "Parisian" street map canvas prints. A new arrival to the warehouse, a collection of grey toned basketware, adds even more storage options to keep clutter at bay.
These accessories are from a new rustic collection of weathered wood and metal pieces. The candle holders, wine rack and clocks have the perfect look of "found" objects collected over time. Displaying favourite things that reflect your personality is what decorating is all about! The trick is to edit, mix and match to create a blended style with what you already own.
This look didn't need a lot of colour but a few touches of red crept in, just enough to carry the eye through the room.
Get ready for a lot more colour as we head into Spring. Stay tuned & happy decorating!
