Red Lacquer Furniture for a Vintage, Romantic Look
February in Canada. Snow, ice, cold. If you're a winter wimp like me, spring can't come soon enough. I think we are all craving colour this time of year and I was determined to have lots of it in our February photo shoot.
This one had to incorporate Valentine's Day and what better way to do it than with a splash of red and pink. A bold contrast to the neutral backdrop of the cream paisley pattern drapes.
Red lacquer furniture is a design classic, usually used in a more formal setting but I wanted this shoot to have an eclectic, vintage feel. This collection is also available in cream and black if red doesn't work for your space. Using a dresser as a vanity gives extra storage and a place for a pretty mirror, jewelery, trinkets boxes, and photos of special memories. Costume jewelery, as a decor accessory, means you can enjoy it every day, not just when you are wearing it. The lovely ivory chair with nailhead detail is so on trend again this year. Feminine, floral pillows with bobble trim are just a few of the fabulous new patterns for spring. I love the vintage look and colour these added.
A metal tray table with a fluted edge adds another romantic element. This piece would make a pretty night table too, especially at the cottage. Add some delicate vintage china and milk glass--so pretty. A matching coat stand can also be used as a feature. Add scarves, purses, or a piece of clothing to coordinate with your decor. (I added my red raincoat in the shoot.) Enjoy your favourite pieces, don't keep them hidden! Lightly scented candles and fresh flowers brighten any day, especially bleak winter days.
A bedroom doesn't have to be just a bedroom. It can be part dressing room, part sitting area. Make it your own original space.
This was a fun shoot, lots of colour and different design elements. A challenge for our new photographer Vanessa of Farm Gate Imaging on her first photo shoot with us. Red is a tricky colour to photograph but she nailed it!
The look for this year is relaxed and eclectic, with a romantic feel. Enjoy.
