Stylist File: The Chapman Collection
This year, to meet the need for ever growing online sales, the Wicker Emporium photoshoots took a different direction to keep images fresh and interesting. All of the Wicker Emporium furniture pieces have a unique look and work well as stand alone statement pieces. We wanted to show Collections together in one room setting, making it easier for you to envision how the pieces could be styled in your own home.
Given the scale of our photo room (small) it was a challenge to style 3 different room settings in each collection. Behind the scenes can be like Grand Central Station on shoot days. 20 or more furniture pieces, props, backdrops, bags of accessories and last week we even had lobster...more of that in a later post.
Styling a room is all about layering. Textures, colour and scale all have to be in sync to make an image look appealing. Usually I start with the walls. Experimenting with brick and rustic wood backdrops gave our images a more relaxed, modern feel. Rugs add texture and colour, layering two is a popular trend.
Next layer is the larger items of furniture, working to the small items. Then the fun part for me, accessories, flowers, food (Larry the lobster was a great model by the way).
This shoot featured the new Chapman collection. The dining table is very versatile. It would make a fabulous desk, if like me, you need a large surface to spread your work out on. We styled a dining room and family room setting, but all the pieces would work equally well in other rooms in a home.
The grey wash finish works with so many colours. I gave it a pop of turquoise with a grouping of mirrors (multiples always look interesting), linens and china. One of our Eiffel chairs in blue was the finishing touch. After setup I felt we needed some green. All I had to work with was 1 glass vase. A trip to reception to trim a few leaves off the plants and a piece of string later we had an arrangement. Sometimes things don’t go as planned and you have to improvise!
We even made this lovely video to show you how it all comes together. Enjoy!
