What Makes a Great Shopping Experience?
Sunnyside Mall in Bedford, Nova Scotia has always been one of my favorite malls. Twenty years ago it was the only mall around featuring live plants, natural skylight, and classy seasonal décor. The shops tended to be boutique style with unique and interesting goods. Fast forward through many retail changes and renovations and today there are once again interesting boutique stores offered in a very pleasant atmosphere with lots of easy parking. There is a little bit of everything offered from designer clothes to local wines, restaurants and coffee shops, a florist and even furniture. My kind of mall!
Wicker Emporium joined Sunnyside Mall in recent years, and has lately moved into its new space at the Pete’s Frootique end. This is my favorite Wicker Emporium location. I love a store that challenges me a bit in the sense that everywhere I look, I see something new, however I appreciate that many shoppers want to be able to find what they are looking for without too much searching. That’s where merchandising plays a huge role. With so many wonderful items on display, organizing items by color, function and price as they do in this location helps shoppers locate and choose. There is also a visual comfort from organized spaces; chaotic displays are very unsettling for many shoppers.
Another factor that makes this store a positive experience is the variety; whether you are looking for that special large piece, or a little something to complement your décor, you can find it here. Solid wood furniture such as this hand crafted and hand finished dining table from the Sherbrooke line, alongside pretty accents for the home (I bought the solid aqua vase for my staging inventory), and many styles of chairs, shelves, and occasional tables.
I tend to be a bargain shopper, always wanting to make my client’s budget stretch by finding quality on sale. I stopped into Wicker Emporium this week for the End of Season sale, which was 50-70% storewide. I like that they offer these great sales several times a year.
If you prefer website shopping, on wickeremporium.ca you can enter your location to connect with local availability and pricing. These items especially caught my eye.
I’m in the stores and online shopping all the time, whether I’m watching out for items my clients are looking for, purchasing on their behalf, or searching for something new for my own home or cottage. In the Halifax area there can be challenges with the limited choices available. Wicker Emporium is one of my go-to places to find something that is a bit different, affordable and gorgeous.
Sales staff can make or break a shopping experience. I usually know what I want and don’t want sales staff following me around. Some shoppers enjoy the attention and help. A good sales staff is someone who can figure out quickly which type the shopper is and act accordingly.
What makes a shopping experience good for you? Whether you love to browse, get satisfaction from buying bargains, need lots of guidance, or only buy high quality, will determine your favorite store. If you hate to shop, pick the most organized store you can find to make your trip as short and successful as possible, or call someone like me to shop for you.
