Customizing a Harvest Bench to Match Your Decor
Go ahead! Pull up a chair…or better yet, a bench! Doesn’t this harvest bench make you want to sit and stay a while and enjoy some good ol’ home cooking?
Extra seating is always an issue when unexpected company pops in or when the kids bring friends home for dinner. What better way to be prepared than to use a bench like this to provide the seating that you need.
This strong, sturdy and heavy bench could hold at least three adults or four little ones at your table. After your meal, it can easily slide to your entry or hallway for the perfect spot to sit and tie shoes, pack on extra layers or even get the kids ready to head out to the rink.
I wasn’t sure I wanted to paint this piece because the wood was so beautiful. It caught my eye the moment I walked into the store because of the intensity of the wood. When I brought it home, I wondered what color would pair well with that dark wood.
I applied three coats of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in French Enamel. It was the perfect fit and complemented the wood perfectly. I sealed the bench with Antiquing Wax because I wanted it to look like it had been part of our home for years and the wax gave it just the right finish.
This bench (as well as so many other Wicker Emporium pieces) shows us how we can use our imagination when it comes to furnishing our home. Don’t be confined by the traditional rules of where to place your favorite pieces of furniture. This bench can serve many purposes, so why limit it to just one space? Move it around, use it on a daily basis, and make it functional. That is why we buy furniture, isn’t it?
