Style File: 2016 Home Decor Trends
Happy New Year! Another bright, shiny year with so many fabulous home décor possibilities lies ahead.
New trends are always inspiring; some we love, some not so much (carpeted bathrooms, waterbeds and chintz everything spring to mind.) Let’s take a look at what the year ahead has in store for us home décor junkies.
Wow, this was a huge focus last year and carries on into 2016. Retro-inspired statement pieces best describes this trend. Copper, burnished brass and glass lighting grace the pages of home décor magazines and wicker emporium is right on trend with some fabulous pendants in their lighting collection. Simple styles add big impact for any room in the home.
It’s hard to call this a trend as blue never really goes out of style. 2016 is leaning towards bolder blues, like cobalt. Paired with lots of white, this always looks fresh and so many colours can be teamed with this combo that blue can be considered a neutral! Add some pink, another colour to look for in 2016, or emerald green. Just some accents in these tones will give your room a fresh new focus.
“Stay a while” dining spaces
Staying in is the new going out, and dining spaces are reflecting this trend. Large, casual dining tables in weathered woods, mixed seating with tufted, wooden, Eiffel chairs, metal or woven seating . Anything but a matchy-matchy look goes. A bench is a great addition to a dining space too. Placed on a wall with some bright cushions it will give that relaxed feel instantly.
If we are entertaining more at home, we need eye-catching dinnerware. White has been the trend for many years but for 2016 patterns are bolder, more artistic, and pieces you want to put on show. The new range from wicker emporium is hand-painted and so pretty to look at. Add some to your basic white for a punch of colour in the dark, dreary days of winter.
With so much technology in our daily lives, sometimes just unplugging from it all seems impossible. Creating a “techno fee zone” in the home is becoming a must. A quiet corner or a room dedicated to reading, colouring (the new “zone out” trend) or music can be a great way to unwind. Think comfortable seating, lots of plush pillows and storage to keep clutter at bay. Oh, what about a beverage station? Now we’re talking.
Whatever your style, there is always a way to incorporate new trends into your décor. Happy decorating!
